because i'm a better writer after 12 hours of work

So my title is probably not true, but we're going to pretend it is, since I haven't written on here in a long time, and I feel like updating. You're all probably wondering why I am working 12 hours a day...no, I did not get a job with an i-banking firm, or with tfa, for that matter. No, I got a job at "the counter," a restaurant that specializes in gourmet burgers based around the unique "build your own burger" concept, allowing for over 300,000 customized burger combinations...it's only taken me 24+ hours of training to have that one burned into my brain. Basically, I am waitressing, but they want us to REALLY know what we're doing, so I have training for 6 hours a night all this week, after my 6 hours in the morning at SDG. The last three days, including tonight, have involved memorizing 10 kinds of cheese, 18 regular toppings, 9 premium toppings, and 17 sauces, being tested on them, and learning how to use my nifty little palm pilot ordering system. The restaurant hasn't opened yet - it's on california ave, fyi - so the next few days they are inviting in people from the community to eat for free, to give us practice and drum up interest in the place. Really, I'm only cynical about the amount of training I have to do. All the other servers and bartenders are awesome, as are the people they brought up from santa monica to train us, and the food really is as tasty as they say it is - particularly the sweet potato fries, which are addictive. Once I start working, I'll only be working thursday, friday and saturday nights, for 4 hours each, so I just have to make it through this week and then I think it will be a really fun way to get some extra cash (I already got a $15 tip tonight when they pulled people off the street to give them free food and give us some practice...I was the only one who got tipped, it was exciting).

On the other job front, the unofficial guide is going to press in the next few weeks, so things at SDG have been kind of crazy. For those of you who didn't hear, I have designed the cover and section guides for the guide, plus the design for the back of the coupons. The theme is graffiti, so each section is a different photo of a place on campus or around the bay area with graffiti photoshopped onto walls and the ground to give the title of the section. Kind of a wierd theme, but so far I've graffiti-ed the arch of the main quad, the claw, the red fountain by the library, the wall behind the rodin sculptures, a wall by an arch in the quad (that's the cover), fort point in sf, a windmill in daly city, moonbeans, and the ground by the tables at tresidder. In addition, I and another intern (who's last day is tomorrow) are going through updating/creating all the ads and coupons for the guide, which has gotten pretty hectic as the deadline to go to press approaches. Still don't feel like I'm being challenged a whole lot, so we'll see how the next few months go.

Anyhow, that's the update on the job front, which for the past few days has basically been all I've done. I'll post again soon about more exciting stuff than work, once I am no longer at the point where I am lame and want to go to bed at 10 at night. Hope everyone is doing well...Jules - hope your tests weren't too bad, Stacy - we need to stop playing phone tag, Rob - hope you were able to get all moved into your house during your week off, Mike - if you're reading this, you're probably less drugged than you were earlier today, which has to be a plus, and Ari - I forgot to mention in my email that yes, anaconda's do live in the amazon, please avoid them. And now my battery's about to run out...goodnight!!

more alluring...

so i think the color combos still need a little work, but check out those scrolling photos! pretty cool, huh? AND the best part is we can all add photos to it! to do so, all you need to do is go to the Posting>Create page, click on the image icon at the upper left to upload an image, once it finishes uploading, it will show the URL for the image, which you can enter into the code under Template>Edit Current page (just copy and past one of the lines in the huge chunk of code that starts "img src=..." and then replace the "http://photo1.blogger..." part with the URL from the photo you uploaded. oh, and it's probably best to make the photos smaller first (i made mine low quality jpegs, roughly 200-300KB each). anyhow, off to see pirates 2...

The First Post

Here it is, the first one. The page looks kind of boring at the moment, so I am going to try to come up with a better looking heading and background ASAP...I'm thinking lots of photos. Of course, feel free to take the reins on any of the editing if you feel so obliged, otherwise, keep your eyes peeled for something (hopefully) more exciting.
